In the 2015-2016 school year, the Howard Social Thinking Team will begin to implement social thinking strategies to the whole school. Howard staff will be educated through social thinking tidbits so that staff implement consistent language to teach students expected social learning skills.
Michelle Garcia Winner coined the term Social Thinking in the mid-1990s. She is a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist from San Jose, California. She treats students with social cognitive deficits as wells as educates people across the United States and beyond. Her work is being applied not only to persons with higher-functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and related disabilities, but also more broadly to all students. |
